Reducing stress levels of IVF patients by simplifying IVF treatment

Many patients find it very hard to do IVF because they simply aren’t able to take the 15 days off they have been told they need for doing an IVF treatment.

This is because many IVF clinics make very unreasonable demands on the patient’s time . They expect the patient to come every day to the clinic for a scan , blood test and injection, which means the poor patient spends about 3-4 hours daily in the IVF clinic , over 7- 10 days. And we know doctors are notorious for not keeping their appointments on time, as a result of which patients get frustrated and stressed out , because they waste half the day, just waiting to meet the doctor with their report.

They cannot take care of the housework , and are forced to take prolonged leave from the office , all of which imposes an unnecessary financial and emotional burden on the poor patient. Not only do they have to deal with the financial and emotional stress of the IVF cycle, they also now need to cope with the additional stress of having to take time off life and work, and this can be very disruptive.

I believe the only reason some clinics insist that patients come every day is to make their clinics look extremely busy , so patients are impressed by their workload ! The tragedy is that some of these clinics actually resemble railway stations, because they are so over-crowded. There are so many patients that the poor staff has no idea what is happening to each individual patient, forget about the poor patients themselves !

Other clinics do this because they want to give the impression that they are being extremely thorough and careful, by monitoring their patients so meticulously and closely, but what this actually means is that they end up taking very poor care of their patients , because they don’t respect the patient’s time , and waste it by calling them to the clinic every day for unnecessary scans , blood tests and injection !

Many clinics make a bad situation even worse by insisting that the patient take complete bed rest after the embryo transfer – which is another 15 days wasted in purgatory. They also need to get family members to help take care of the house in their absence , and the spouse is also loaded with the additional work , because the patient herself is resting in bed . All these artificial restrictions mean that the IVF cycle experience can be extremely unpleasant , and this is one of the reasons why patients will refuse to repeat an IVF cycle when the first one fails, because they had such a poor experience the first time around.

This is truly tragic, because there is actually no need for IVF treatment to be so time consuming. The good news is that IVF clinics can be much kinder and streamline the process, so it becomes more patient-friendly. In our clinic , patients only need to come only about 4-5 times for a scan during an entire IVF treatment cycle , because they can do their blood tests locally, and take their own medications themselves.

Even out of Mumbai patients can do their scans in their hometown, which means the amount of time they need to spend in Mumbai is as little as 3-5 days, which makes it much more affordable for patients. This means they can get world-class treatment , without having to compromise on the standards of the medical care they receive, because often the quality of care provided in small cities is not as good as it is in Mumbai , simply because we have so much more experience and experience . Sadly, most patients simply cannot afford to spend 15 days in Mumbai , which is why so many are forced to take shortcuts , which end up harming them because their chances of success drop dramatically.
