I am very worried about the passivity and lack of critical thinking I observe in many patients seeking IVF treatment. They seem reluctant to question their doctors, evaluate the information they receive, or make sense of online resources about IVF. This passivity makes them vulnerable to manipulation by unscrupulous doctors, even when they are highly educated and intelligent individuals.
This trend of unquestioning obedience bothers me deeply because it allows bad doctors to tarnish the reputation of the entire medical profession. Patients’ failure to think critically empowers these bad doctors to continue their unethical practices. I can understand why bad doctors want to cheat patients. What I can’t understand is why intelligent patients allow bad doctors to cheat them !
I often ask myself why these adults are unable to think independently and conduct their own research. The answer lies in the education system, which has conditioned them to be spoon-fed information. This approach stifles their ability to ask questions, dig deeper, and critically evaluate what they are told, be it from a teacher, a tutor, or a doctor. These authority figures are viewed as experts, and their words are accepted without question.
This trend is not only detrimental to the individuals themselves but also to society as a whole. Our people are our human capital, and if they lack the ability to think critically, create jobs, and hold doctors accountable, our country will continue to decline.
My goal is not simply to criticize doctors or patients. I want to create a viable alternative so patients can be assertive, and find ethical doctors who are willing to respect them, whom they can trust !
We cannot rely solely on the government to address this issue. The ART Law is a toothless tiger, as doesn’t even demand that IVF clinics report their results to a central registry – something which all governments overseas do, to ensure IVF doctors are transparent and accountable, and don’t take patients for a ride.
You want a doctor who can tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs, not one who just blindly follows the herd or obeys their corporate manager’s orders in order to maximise their profits at your expense !
