Why the husbands of women with endometriosis are more likely to have a low sperm count ?

This observation seems to make no sense at first blush. After all, when a couple get married, the wife doesn’t know she had endometriosis, and the husband hasn’t tested his sperm count.

So then how do we explain this ?

The reason is that women who have endometriosis have reduced fertility potential, but the fertility potential of the couple is the sum of her fertility and that of her husband’s.

This means that if a woman with endo marries a man who’s very fertile , she will mostly probably get pregnant in the bedroom , and won’t need to see a doctor at all .

It’s only those women with endo who happen to marry a man whose own fertility potential is poor because he has a low sperm count who will seek medical attention for their infertility, because their problem has been compounded.

This is why infertility specialists and gynecologists start believing the above observation. The couples they see are not representative of the general population, and this skew causes them to get biased.

Thus, it’s not that women with endo attract men with a low sperm count, but that it is this sub-set of married couples need medical care.
