When I review the treatment records of patients who have failed IVF cycles in other clinics, I get very upset about the fact that the doctor has not bothered to share photographs of the embryos they created with the patient .
I can understand why bad doctors do this – they need to hide their incompetence. Because they have a poor quality IVF lab, they create poor quality embryos, and they know that if they share the photographs of these poor quality embryos with their patients , they will understand that the reason for the failure was because of the poor quality embryos ( which are either fragmented, arrested or dead). However, the doctor can lie and call them “ Grade A” embryos, because it’s easy to hide the truth from clueless trusting patients , because the photographs are suppressed.
Sadly, because Indian patients are so trusting , it’s very easy to take them for a ride , and they get cheated all the time, because they are not willing to speak up , or do their homework and ask the doctor these difficult questions . After all, you need to be prepared if you want to know what questions to ask your IVF doctor !
The tragedy is this information is very easily available online today , and I just can’t understand why well-educated patients (many of whom are MBAs, engineers and even doctors themselves ) don’t demand photos of their embryos. This is tangible evidence of high quality treatment – and it’s such a simple demand to make !
He problem is that once patients realize they were taken for a ride by one IVF doctor, they refuse to trust any other IVF doctor, because they tar all doctors with the same brush. This means that I now have to work twice as hard to help them get the confidence so they can screw up their courage to start a new IVF cycle.
