Good managers don’t second guess their team member’s decisions . They allow them the freedom to make their own decisions, and respect them enough to allow them make mistakes. Yes, we know that some of these decisions are going to be wrong , but we only learn this in hindsight .
It’s not fair to beat upon them for making errors, because they will get paralyzed . In order to protect themselves, they will either refuse to take any decisions , or ask you to make all of them yourself – which will reduce their efficiency , as well as your productivity
And even if they do make a mistake , or if their decision was different from what you would have made if you had been in their place, please be forgiving, and assume positive intent , rather than be critical and blame them for not using their head . They are not your clones, and some of their decisions may actually be better than the ones you would have made ! Give give them an opportunity to grow – this will help you to grow as well !
